Merry Christmas everyone. I’m putting together a Christmas gift idea round-up/End of the Year List Special before you get the final Jackal of 2022.
I do this basically every year, so if you are long-time reader you knew this was coming. Hopefully this is helpful if you are stumped on what to buy a loved one/me for the holidays.
If you know me, you know I am basically sponsored by AllBirds (along with everyone else who lives in Denver). Their hiking shoes are probably the coolest new addition to their lineup.
If you know me even better, you’ll know that I think skincare is important. Bro, you are 33 and it’s time for you to stop kidding yourself: YOU NEED A TONER. Their whole website is basically on sale from now until Christmas.
The absolute coolest gift that I got for my birthday was the small kamodo my wife got me to supplement my Traeger. But a really neat grilling-related gift for anyone who already has a grill (or two) is the Meater, which allows you to monitor the temperature of your meat wirelessly. You can spring for the insane one, which has multiple Meaters and Wi-Fi range, or do what I did and get a single one.
I got another great gift for my birthday this year, Spirited: Cocktails from Around the World. If you are a cocktail person, or even an aspiring one, you should get this book. It covers cocktails from pre-prohibition, the 1800s, and current day.
This is less gift-related and more end-of-year related. Steak has been the one thing I have consistently cooked since I was about 15 years old and I feel like I have it down pat. Or at least I felt that way. Earlier this year I used Kenji Lopez-Alt’s method and it produced the best home-cooked steak possibly ever.
For end of year lists, I don’t have much in the way of TV shows. I am one of the four people who actually liked Rings of Power. Wakanda Forever was great. I have a preliminary “Best of” music list, which I haven’t paired down to my absolute favorites just yet, but I will just come out and say it: Beyonce probably produced the album of the year.
I’ll see everyone for the final Jackal of the year next week. Merry Christmas, happy holidays, and happy New Year.
